Odometer Mileage Log Builder: Turn Start & End Readings into a Clean Annual Report

An October oil-change receipt with 28,430 on the odometer is evidence. A guessed January 1 reading is not. This worksheet projects both year endpoints from that receipt and your weekly-mile estimate, then labels the results as estimates.

Start with the right trips

Look for dated odometer readings on oil-change invoices, tire receipts, state inspections or dealer service records. Two dated readings are stronger than one. If you can get them, use the actual records rather than a weekly average.

The IRS rate table gives the cents-per-mile amounts. It does not decide whether a particular drive is deductible. Write down why the drive happened before relying on any calculation.

How this worksheet works

The worksheet adds or subtracts estimated weekly miles for the number of days between the receipt and each year endpoint. This is a rough reconstruction, not a verified reading and not a substitute for a business-trip log.

Keep the records behind the number

Keep a copy of the source receipt and note your estimation method. If the car was bought, sold or placed in business use during 2026, the relevant period may not be January 1 through December 31.

See IRS Publication 463 for travel and car-expense records, and Announcement 2026-11 in IRB 2026-29 for the July rate change. Form requirements can depend on your deduction method and business structure.

Milevaro reports are records of trips logged by the user. They are not IRS-certified and do not guarantee a tax deduction. A deduction lowers taxable income; it is not direct cash back. The estimated deduction is business miles multiplied by a user-set rate and is an estimate, not tax advice. Consult a qualified tax professional.
