Privacy Policy
Draft. This policy is written from the Milevaro product requirements. Have it reviewed by qualified counsel and fill in the bracketed details before publishing.
Milevaro is a mileage tracking app for iOS and Android. We built it to do one thing well: record the trips you choose to track. This policy explains what data the app uses, where it's kept, and the choices you have.
The short version
- Milevaro collects your location only while a trip is active, from when you tap Start Trip until you end the trip.
- Your trips and GPS routes are stored on your device. Nothing is uploaded unless you turn on cloud backup, and GPS routes are included only if you choose. One exception: on Android, opening a saved trip's map sends that trip's route to Google to draw the map picture (see Maps).
- We don't sell your location data or any other personal data.
- You can delete any trip, all your data, or your account (including any cloud backup) at any time from within the app.
Information the app uses
| Data | When | Where it's stored |
|---|---|---|
| GPS location points (coordinates, time, accuracy, speed) | Only during an active trip | On your device |
| Trip details: distance, times, Business/Personal type, purpose, notes | When you save or edit a trip | On your device |
| Start and end addresses shown in the app and in reports | When a trip is saved | On your device |
| Generated CSV and PDF reports | When you create a report | On your device, and wherever you choose to share them |
| Saved places, vehicles, odometer readings and custom purposes | When you create them | On your device |
| Cloud backup copy of trips, notes, places and vehicles, and GPS routes only if you include them | Only if you turn on cloud backup | Your Milevaro account, hosted by Supabase |
| Account details from Apple or Google (name, email, account identifier) | Only if you choose to sign in | Our authentication provider, Supabase |
| A saved trip's route (up to 120 points, including its start and end) | On Android, each time you open that trip's map | Sent to Google Maps Platform to draw the map picture. Not stored by Milevaro. |
| Subscription and free-trial status | When you start your free month or subscribe | Apple App Store or Google Play, which process payments |
Maps
iPhone: maps are drawn with Apple Maps. Apple receives requests for the map area on screen, not your trips or routes.
Android: a saved trip's map is a picture drawn by Google Maps Platform (Static Maps). To draw it, the app sends Google that trip's route (up to 120 points) and the map area, each time you open the map. Google's privacy policy applies to that request. While a trip is recording, Android shows the route without a map and sends nothing. If the map can't load, the route is drawn without a map.
Milevaro doesn't send your trips or routes to map providers for any other purpose. Converting coordinates into street addresses may use your device's built-in mapping service. [Confirm the geocoding provider and what it receives.]
Location permissions
Milevaro asks for location access only when you start your first trip. To keep measuring a trip while your screen is locked or you're using another app, the app uses background location for the duration of that trip. On iPhone you'll see the system location indicator; on Android you'll see a persistent notification while a trip is active. You can change or revoke location access at any time in your device settings.
Accounts are optional
You can use Milevaro without an account. If you choose to sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the basic profile information those services share with your permission. Signing in alone doesn't upload your trips. Cloud backup uploads them only when you turn it on, and GPS routes only if you choose to include them. Backups are encrypted in transit and at rest.
How we use information
- To calculate trip distance and duration and show your mileage log.
- To generate the reports you request.
- To let you sign in, back up and restore your log, and manage your subscription, if you choose to.
- To respond when you contact support.
We don't use your location for advertising, and we don't build profiles of where you go.
Sharing
We don't sell personal data. Information leaves your device only when you share a report yourself, or when you use a service that requires it: signing in and cloud backup through Supabase, paying through the App Store or Google Play, and, on Android, drawing a saved trip's map through Google Maps Platform. [List any analytics or crash-reporting providers, or state that none are used.]
Your choices
- Delete a trip: swipe on it in the Mileage Log, or open it and tap Delete Trip.
- Delete all trip data: Settings › Delete All Trip Data.
- Turn off cloud backup or exclude routes: Settings › Cloud Backup.
- If your subscription ends: trips on your device are never deleted by us. Your cloud backup is kept for 6 months so you can restore it if you resubscribe, then deleted. We'll remind you before that happens.
- Delete your account: Settings › Delete Account. This also deletes your cloud backup. [Confirm deletion timeline for backups.]
- Stop location access: change Milevaro's location permission in your device settings.
Deleting the app also deletes the data stored on your device.
Our website
The milevaro.com website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't track you across sites and doesn't collect your location. It measures pages viewed, referring site, country and device type. The app itself contains no analytics.
Children
Milevaro is intended for adults who drive and isn't directed at children under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app.
